Seven LPs are a lot of time to consolidate a career and this is just what the brothers Reid seem intent with the release of "Munkie." Far from his dark past of agitators and the peace of mind knowing godfathers of a whole generation of musicians whose work is based on the distortion of the melodies and arrangements monotony-the-decade mark, this album presents some JAMC seamless, decided to charge whatever that belongs to them for so many years of hard work, always putting pop on the edge of the dirt that both groups have subsequently claimed as Teenage Fanclub, and the like. The songs are full of songs about youth, which does not affect the guitar sound and a voice that passed through filters loaded with dust and hoarseness. As for the design of the songs, the intention hypnotic pop punk is what takes the cake. Some of them have stonianos aftertaste, or at least sixties, and as Jim Reid himself has said on occasion, even the odd echo of the Buzzcocks. Perhaps the line has been sweetened with respect to what the band played in his masterpiece "Automatic" but it seems clear that they still have enough rage to avoid losing the site that much effort and has given so much trouble. The album ends with a quasi-autobiographical piece called "I hate rock'n'roll", by a Jim Reid has always shown a love-hate relationship with the rock, his belief that 99% of music it is now is crap, but that's good because so good songs coming out are better.
