British band Radiohead has released their pre new album, In Rainbows, through their website. This is the first work of the group after their separation from the EMI label. It is still unclear whether the band is looking to sign a contract with another record, but the truth is that the double album produced by Nigel Godrich and can be ordered in two versions:
Discbox: version "physical" work contains 2 CDs, 2 vinyl and artwork packaged in hardcover. Cost £ 40 with postage included. Orders begin shipping from December.
digital download: who ordered this version will receive 10 October a code that will allow them to immediately download a complete disk. The shock value is symbolic: he who wants the digital version should specify how much to pay for it. You can put "0", so it is assumed that can also be downloaded for free. It was not clear yet what the format will be available for download. Below is a list of topics for each of the disks, in order of appearance:
Disc 1: 15 Step / Bodysnatchers / Nude / Weird Fishes-Arpeggi / All I Need / Faust Arp / Reckoner / House Of Cards / Jigsaw Falling Into Place / Videotape
Disc 2: Mk 1 / Down Is The New Up / Go Slowly / Mk 2 / Last Flowers / Up On The Ladder / Bangers And Mash / 4 Minute Warning
Thus Thom Yorke meets what had said little more than a year in an interview, and is ahead of what could become the strategy of many bands with great popularity they no longer need the support of a multinational label.
As we read on the website of the American edition of Rolling Stone, the download will be free of DRM. They also report that in early 2008 will launch a conventional CD version.
Time magazine published an article on the subject on its website which read statements that Thom Yorke made the magazine a while back: "I like people with our record company, but it was time that one has to ask why anyone needs them. And yes, we probably would give a perverse satisfaction to say 'fuck you' to this business model decadent. " On the same note there are statements by an executive of a European multinational, "If the best band in the world does not want to become a part, I do not know what is left of this business."
A day of digital release of In Rainbows, the band sent an e-mail to which we checked for download. The message states that it will send a code to enter the download area. From there you can download a. ZIP file containing the 10 tracks in 160 Kbps MP3 format without any DRM.
10/10/2007: We received the album! The e-mail includes a direct link without delay to a. ZIP file containing 48 MB the 10 subjects.
